My Nonna's Italian Bolognese SauceA couple of years ago, I visited the birthplace of my Mum in Arten, Northern Italy along with my family. It was such a special time. We sat around with relatives and ate ourselves silly in fear of becoming ungrateful for the feast that took hours to prepare. I always smile when I think of the way we communicated, as my family (besides Mum) speaks only English and all our relatives only speak Italian. Mum was the mediator and translator. After tasting the Bolognese sauce, I insisted Mum ask the ingredients and special tips. I was surprised at how easy the sauce is to make..... 500g organic beef mince 1 onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, diced 1 tin tomatoes diced 1 tablespoon tomato paste 1 cup stock Fry the onion and garlic in enough olive oil to cover the bottom of your frypan. Cook until onion and garlic are transparent Add mince and cook until brown Add the tomatoes, tomato paste and stock. Bring to boil. Simmer for 5 -6 hours.Just leave it and come back when it is ready. Add salt. The taste will be amazing and worth the wait! |
